"T is for Taylor..."
T is for Taylor but also for travel, one of her many passions. This 5'9" beauty has called Vancouver home since grade 10, but has lived in Kelowna, Victoria, Toronto, and Tokyo. Currently in grade 12, she manages to balance schoolwork, her responsibilities as student council president, and a busy modeling schedule. She enjoys hanging out with her family and friends and finds time for personal interests such as reading, running, photography and music.
While living in Toronto, Taylor entered the Sutherland Agency hoping to sign up for acting classes, but was encouraged to try her hand at modeling. She won first place in a competition with the agency involving around 3000 other girls. Although she moved to Vancouver shortly thereafter, she has continued with local agency Richard's Model Management.
Taylor has spent the past two summers modeling in Tokyo. Working in the Tokyo market was challenging and she loved learning more about the business of modeling. She immersed herself in the Japanese culture but admits she was homesick at times. What did she miss most when she was away? "My family. I think one of the reasons I survived was because of my family and my close relationship with them. I also missed Canadian food and home cooking. I like pasta and I LOVE cereal - my favorite is special K." Taylor hopes to have the opportunity to model in other foreign markets when she finishes her final year of high school, and then it's off to University.
Out of all of the modeling jobs she has experienced, Taylor enjoys photo shoots the most. "I love being in front of the camera and just being able to express myself - show my creativity, show my emotions and how I'm feeling that day." Taylor's ideal photo shoot would be in a really isolated place, in a different country. "I would like to work someplace I've never been like Africa or India and do something that is full of culture, maybe in the middle of a city where you're surrounded by the people and the natural environment, where it's real and not made up and there are no props." Daria Werbowy, a Canadian model, is one of Taylor's role models. "I've heard her speak and she seems like a very confident, beautiful woman inside and out. No matter what she is shooting, her look is powerful."
For now, Taylor has one last year of school to complete, but should her modeling career take off and fame come to call, Taylor is ready to use it as a positive force. " I would love to use my power to do something to help people. I would like to go to Africa or someplace and work in an outreach program, maybe even one day have my own. One thing that going away has made me realize is that there is so much out there. It's really opened my eyes to the good and the bad of the world."
