This bonnie wee lass
By Alicia-Rae Light
This 5'9 modern day Scottish beauty has a mysterious vibe about her that is captivating from the very instant she walks into the room.
Wearing a black leather jacket that she can't live without, paired with her signature dark skinny jeans, white canvas flat sneakers, and a red silk scarf tied around her wrist peaking out of the corner of her jacket's sleeve, twenty-year old Stacey Armstrong's style says it all - eccentric, yet subtle with a hint of mod street chic as she walks into the cafe looking straight off of the streets of trendy London town.
After spending the first six years of her life growing up in Dundee, Scotland Stacey and her family made their way across the pond to Canada to a quaint town called Ladner, just outside the city of Vancouver.
In the words of fellow Scotland natives and classic rock stars, Status Quo, she remarks, "I'm a wanderer."
After growing up in such a small town, Stacey realized the city is where she's meant to be. She explains how her favorite place to be is anywhere she can enjoy walking around and just spending time migrating around and taking in the city. She excitedly mentions plans to move into a Main Street apartment in the near future.
Stacey is also currently in her third year studying accounting full-time at Simon Fraser University. This blue-eyed beauty is well on her way into one of her careers, with a co-op lined up for fall at one of the world's top accounting firms, PricewaterhouseCoopers.
While grabbing lunch at the Harbor Center one afternoon during a break from class, a representative from BMG modeling agency approached her and told her to come by the agency's office, noting that she had a very unique look.
"So I went over a couple weeks later and signed with them. I had Thursday off so I thought it would be fun to go down and fill in the day."
People would always comment to her saying that she should pursue modeling, "When the lady came up to me I thought heck, why not?" And from then on, her second career began to take off.
Since signing on with BMG this past September, Stacey has done work with MAC cosmetics, Urban Rush and hair modeling shows with AG and some work on a reality TV show. As well as these she's done a considerable amount of work with local clothing companies, including her recent photo-shoot with fashion photographer Renat Touchiev.
The highlight of her career so far has been the AG shoot, complete with a New York backdrop, and a new hairstyle - ash blonde cut into a stylish pixie cut bringing out her strikingly big blue eyes and suiting her personal style perfectly.
As for her favorite part of being in the business, "Sitting and getting your makeup done, hair did, and general pampering stuff is kind of fun and relaxing." She also loves the opportunity she has to meet talented photographers and other professionals in the industry.
"Some are very talented and passionate and it shows," she says as she describes the professionals she has been working with, who seem to have something which is not unlike her own passion for life that is clear when she speaks. Stacey's taking every opportunity she's given to live her life to it's fullest without hesitation.
She spends her free time with friends in the city. Her saturdays are spent, "Cooking up a storm and making Shepard's pie,"in the kitchen Smiley O'Neil's Irish pub downtown, somewhat of a home away from home, And Sundays she puts in a few hours as a part-time barista in a small Ladner café.
She hopes to do a lot more modeling in the future, and is leaning toward runway or doing work with designers and would ultimately love to end up back in the United Kingdom in either Edinburgh or London. "It would be fun, traveling around with a designer going to different places."
"I'm a skid at heart but a chartered accountant by trade," remarked the witty young woman.
Stacey has a future ahead of her that's beaming with opportunity, passion and personality - a truly genuine and rare gem in this city.
