From Designer to Mom
By Casey Strynadka

Last time we spoke with Nicole Bridger we were taken in by her fast successful rise into Vancouver's fashion scene. Her eco-friendly clothing line designed by Bridger herself was fast becoming a hit. Now entering her fifth season with her Spring '09 collection, Bridger has seen many changes in her career and continues to move forward. Together with her husban Jemal , four months ago Bridger welcomed a new addition into their family, baby Rhame. During her pregnancy Bridger went through many changes, emotionally as a new mother to be, and as a designer who began to see everything that she wanted.

Her Spring 2009 collection is inspired by being true to yourself. Bridger exclaimed that this was the first ever collection she made entirely for herself. She took a new direction - what she wanted and what she liked - and took off with it. The look is a little drapey mixed with a little casual. Neutral colours became this collections pallet, filling it with sage, navy, browns and tans. She choose to use few prints in her fabrics and went for a more natural feel of solid colours. While designing this collection a few months into her pregnancy, she realized how many of her designs worked for maternity wear. Currently her Spring '09 line is featured in maternity clothing stores here in Vancouver. Bridger goes on to say that this is a "new avenue" to design and cater towards.

A sneak peak into Bridger's Fall 2009 collection brings forth a cool pallet of greys, browns and beige's. The collection will have trendy dresses made out of bamboo knit fabric. "Perfect to be thrown on with a pair of boots, and you're good to go!" The inspiration behind this line is 'perspective'. Bridger claims that while designing this line during her pregnancy, she became more assertive, took control and did what she had to for herself - what was right for her. She was excited about designing the line in this new light and found herself asking the question, "What is Me?". Fall 2009 for Bridger hits stores this September.

In June Bridger is headed off to Los Angeles to be a part of the D&A Trade Show that is held every season . Here she hopes to pick up some more American accounts, not only in women's clothing, but also wants to break into their maternity market as well. Also in her future is Spring 2010. Not slowing down at all, Bridger proves that you can be a mom on the go and still continue to have your career. Becoming a mom has been a huge change in Bridger's life, but she is fast becoming efficient by keeping and maintaining her balance of family and work.
