South Main welcomed a new vintage store to the area on Friday July 3rd with the F as in Frank grand opening party. This is the second F as in Frank store for owners and brothers Drew and Jesse Heifetz (the first location is in Whistler). The Heifetz brothers' lifelong love of collecting vintage clothing is evident in the store's eclectic pieces. Customers can expect pieces dating from the 1900s to the 1990s and a particularly impressive collection of outerwear featuring items like embroidered silk bombers from Japan, hippie jackets, and 1950s leather motorcycle jackets.
Local style website TheStyleSpy.com and Yaletown merchants co-hosted the Yaletown Summer Shopathon on Friday July 17th. Fashionistas from across the city hit the pavement to enjoy one night only discounts and sales from over 40 participating retailers and merchants and to scoop up one of the much coveted swag bags available on a first come, first served basis. Once guests satiated their appetite for shopping, they kicked back and enjoyed complimentary appetizers and cocktails by Charm Modern Thai as well as music by DJ Marques.
Friends, family, and well-wishers gathered at Charm Modern Thai on Thursday July 30th for the Wise and Proper Online Store Launch Party. Elizabeth Law, the designer behind Wise & Proper, played hostess at a casual get-together celebrating the launch of the Vancouver label's online store. Guests munched on Thai-inspired appetizers and sipped lychee flavoured cocktails on Charm's patio as they mixed and mingled. Law's clothing line is known for demure pieces with feminine detailing and classic silhouettes. Be sure to check out her luxe-feeling cashmere sweaters, sure to be a hit this fall as the mercury continues to drop.
Purveyor of Canadian design and fashion Spend on Trend returned Friday August 21st to Sunday August 23rd at the Scotiabank Dance Centre. Tabitha Savoie and Jenny Yen were present along with a good selection of clothing from their three clothing lines: Togs, Cici, and Two of Hearts. The event also featured jewelry by Crass and Sugar, Toodlebunny, and Filou; custom-made clutches by Davie & Chiyo; and leather goods by Catalyst Reaction, among many other designers.
Moving to a new, bigger, better place is grounds for throwing a party, right? Heather Huntingford, the owner of Kiss & Makeup, definitely thinks so; she and close friend Lainey Lui (of LaineyGossip.com fame) co-hosted a summer patio party on Thursday August 27th at the store's new location in the Park Royal village. The weather was perfect as guests mingled indoors and outdoors, nibbling on delectable mini cupcakes by Cupcakes and sipping cocktails by Divine cocktail mixers. A perusal of the store yielded new fall merchandise (the soft cozy cardigans and leggings with latex insets were standouts) and an impressive array of beauty and skincare for sensitive skin.
