Every day at the Olympics there was a ceremony in BC Place stadium where they awarded the athletes their medals. Each day featured a different province. Over 40,000 people were in attendance and it was broadcast live around the world. When it was British Columbia's turn, David Atkins (the company in charge of these events) decided to showcase things we were proud of as a province including first nations, musicians, artists and fashions. Enter designer Jolie Chan who represented the Chinese/Canadian community.

Chan launched the Jolie Couture brand in 2007 at Shanghai Fashion Week and has been a force on the international scene since. While her current focus is custom work, she is also a fashion commentator on FMA Entertainment Weekly and is in the process of opening two luxury stores in Shanghai that will sell both European lines as well as her own brand. Chan was honoured to be asked to represent BC at the Victory Day ceremonies and was originally asked to present the 5 gowns she has shown in three international fashion shows along with her famous large paper umbrella, but she decided, "...I wasn't going to give them some they have seen before. I decided to design a collection with the Olympic Ring colours, except I made a white gown instead of a black one." The five gowns were created from chiffon, tulle and satin in vibrant colours and are a strong tribute to our local fashion talent.
